SYNOPSIS:

Sparse, poetic and humorous, the film moves away from the macro effects of climate change, to zoom in to a group of women in a remote, dry, tribal region of central India’s Bundelkhand, where, through gossip, conversations on caste, patriarchy and politics, and local folk songs, we explore how water scarcity is woven into the lives of women in the region.

198 Karan Nagar

DOCUMENTARY

SYNOPSIS:

198 Karan Nagar was a home my father’s father built. The winter of 1990 in Kashmir was one of the coldest in a century. 198 Karan Nagar was locked up in the dead of the night and that home would never be ours again. This film is part travelogue, part memoir and part documentary about me seeing Kashmir through my father’s eyes, discovering Kashmiriyat for myself. Through the drama of family and relationships, the film follows the ambitions of a father and son for their family’s future, drawing from their past. The film also juxtaposes the two sides of life and the conflict in Kashmir – the togetherness and the underlying division that erupts on occasion. The film ponders on the road ahead for a land and its people, stuck for two generations in a political limbo.

SYNOPSIS:

There will be an extra two billion mouths to feed by 2050, but arable land is in decline. An area twice the size of India would have to be cleared and cultivated to support the world’s burgeoning population. There just isn’t enough space to meet demand.

This three part docs-series follows farmers, activists and entrepreneurs who are coming up with ingenious solutions to avert a global food crisis on limited land. From Indonesian farmers who have turned to an army of insects to survive, women who are mobilising en masse in India to feed the nation, and an entrepreneur in Singapore who believes our future lies in lab-grown foods.

The world relies on just 12 crops and five animals for more than 75% of what we eat. But the weather is changing and crops are struggling to grow in places they used to. What happens when we can no longer farm the food that we eat?

We follow the trials and tribulations of entrepreneurs, farmers and scientists across Asia as they fight to protect the world’s future food supply. Whilst a traditional farmer in Kerala protects climate resistant rice varieties from extinction, offshore seaweed farmers experiment with growing seaweed in warmer oceans and entrepreneurs in Singapore make instant noodles out of unusual crops.
